The RS rating places recent price performance within this site's eligible universe on a 1–99 scale. It is different from RSI and from the stock/index ratio plotted as an RS line. A number and a line with similar names need not use the same calculation.
Calculate the site's return weights
Hypothetical returns of 2%, 5%, 10% and 20% produce 9.7%. Returns of 10%, −5%, 0% and 30% produce 5.5%. A recent jump or an older advance alone does not determine the rank. These are this site's weights, not a claim to replicate a commercial rating.
The denominator matters
Ascending average rank divided by eligible observations, multiplied by 99, rounded and clipped to 1–99 gives the rating. Ties use average ranks. The RS universe requires 250 observed closes, applies a $1 floor in the U.S. and excludes suspect split discontinuities. Its denominator may differ from the entire screened table. Excluded stocks may display 1; that fallback is not a measured bottom-percentile return.
Strong RS is not eight-condition qualification
In the 2026-10-02 snapshot, 218 of 448 U.S. stocks rated at least 90 failed one or more trend conditions. In Korea, 171 of 227 did. Strong weighted performance can coexist with different long-average alignment or high-distance conditions. A Korean 95 and a U.S. 95 rank different universes, rather than compare absolute returns.
What the rating leaves unanswered
RS does not measure earnings, valuation, available liquidity or future returns. Check price extension and adjustment history separately. Explaining a rank change requires the four underlying returns and the contemporaneous universe; today's rating cannot reconstruct yesterday's rank.
